Short Stories

The following are a few interesting short stories and other works that I've written. Most of the older stuff is pretty awful to be honest. I'm mostly keeping them around for the sake of posterity and as an idea of my progression from completely incompetent amateur to... somewhat less amateur writer I guess.

2009

Dreamstasis: Eternity Mission (NaNoWriMo 2009) - Not technically a finished short story, but I only got about 4000 words into it, so I guess it's short. Preserved here for posterity even though I don't think it's particularly good. Though I'm planning to reuse parts of it in other things. Is it fantasy, or is it science fiction?

2007

Introversion Project 1: Angelicide Dreams - Originally planned as an experiment in what I could write on the fly, it was abandoned and later restarted... Over 6500 words to a chaotic story about forgotten memories, dream girls, and technology that is indistinguishable from magic.

2005

The Renaissance of Tragedy - A terribly rushed steampunk science fiction story. Made for yet another short story contest, this time the Queen's Journal Short Story Contest. Exactly 1,493 words in length. I probably should have fleshed out the scenes a lot more. Stupid word limits... Though to be honest, in retrospect it wasn't going to win regardless.

2004

The Colony - A rather so-so story originally written for Writer's Craft in grade 12... Standard Sci-fi fare... [Revised: 2004/07/28]

The Rain - My attempt at a totally non-violent, non-science fiction style story. Probably rather dull...

Coldspace - Another cliche science fiction story, based on Dune, as an assignment for Writer's Craft to imitate Frank Herbert's writing...

2003

In Search of Lost Innocence - A boy bent on vengeance crosses paths with a girl who escaped from a clandestine experiment. One of my submissions for the Take Flight and Write Contest 2003.

Frozen In Time: Challenging Destiny - What would happen if woke up 400 years into the future, and learned about a terrible tragedy in the past that you missed. Another one of my submissions for the Take Flight and Write Contest 2003.

The Cliche Story Project - The Daring Escapade - An assignment for Writer's Craft in grade 12. Basically we had to write a short story with as many cliched phrases as we could possibly fit into it. I went with a humourous parody angle. Really not very good, but hopefully a bit funny.

3 Minute Novel - Final Fantasy 0.1 - Done for a humour anthology assignment in Writer's Craft in grade 12. Basically a quick story that can be read in three minutes. Again, I went with a humourous parody angle. Pretty awful, but hopefully a bit funny.

2002

Space Adventure - Story of a boy who gets a job on a space ship and ends up in an incredible adventure. Also known as "Apprenticeship On A Spaceship", this was originally written for Grade 9 English and was slightly revised and sent in for the 2002 Take Flight and Write Contest at the Burlington Public Library. Obviously, it didn't win.

Legends of the Ancients: Darsic's War - A mythical story about a sword-wielding boy who saves a girl and together they save the world. This was first written for Grade 10 English as an "Original Myth" and was also slightly revised and sent in for the 2002 Take Flight and Write Contest at the Burlington Public Library. Obviously, it also didn't win.
